FedEx Ground is hosting a hiring event on Thursday, July 6th for Package Handlers!

FedEx Ground will have two hiring sessions, listed below. The hiring event will take place at the Tradepoint Atlantic Offices, 1600 Sparrows Point Boulevard, Baltimore, MD 21219.

First Session: 10:30am

YOUR Support is Needed! – Govans Elementary School Summer Program Funding

Community Release from Baltimore Curriculum Project:

Last year we received $42,000 from the Abell Foundation, The Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Family League to support our summer program.  This year we received $0.

Fortunately, Loyola Clinical Centers is coming onboard as a new partner this summer, and offsetting some of our costs by providing literacy instruction to our students.

We need to raise at least $15,000 in order to run a free, streamlined program for fifty K-5 students from July 5th-28th, Monday through Thursday, 8:30am-2:15pm. Offerings will include hands-on STEM instruction, literacy instruction, physical education, technology, team building, arts and crafts, breakfast and lunch.

City Council Hearing – Water Billing Issues

The Baltimore City Council’s Judiciary and Legislative Investigations Committee will be holding the following Investigative Hearing – Water Billing For the purpose of requesting that the Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Department of Finance brief the City Council on water affordability for customers of Baltimore’s Bureau of Water and Wastewater, the new water billing system started in October 2016, and concerns raised by customers of the Bureau of Water and Wastewater regarding unusually high bills, missing bills, and the process to contest bills. This was introduced by City Council President Jack Young as Council Bill 17-0015R.

DPW will have customer service staff on site, set up in the Reeves Room, to assist constituents with water bill issues. This service will be available starting at 5pm.

Spring Cleaning!

Do you need volunteer assistance with a project in your neighborhood?  An alleyway that needs to be cleared, overgrown weeds, a park clean up?  Each semester, community residents and students from Loyola join together to work on projects throughout the York Road corridor community. 

Please fill out this form to request volunteers. Projects must take place in neighborhoods directly adjacent to the York Road commercial corridor from Northern Parkway to 39th Street.

Dates for this Spring’s Clean & Green Days are:

  • March 18
  • March 25
  • April 1
  • April 8

The days last from 10am-12:30pm.  In that time, so much can get done!  We just need community support as leaders for the projects!

Make Your Neighborhood Shine: Sign up for Mayor Catherine E. Pugh’s Spring Cleanup

Spring is near! Let’s sweep away the dust and grime of winter and make our neighborhoods sparkle by signing up for Mayor Catherine E. Pugh’s Spring Cleanup. This year’s Spring Cleanup will be held Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Communities can start preparing for spring cleaning by calling 311 to register. To participate in this year’s Cleanup, groups should organize now and provide their cleanup location(s) and anticipated numbers of participants when calling 311 to sign up. Registered communities will receive bags to help with their cleanup efforts.   This is the City’s 18th annual spring cleaning event, which encourages neighbors from throughout the City to work together to sweep, rake, and plant.

Residents participating in the Mayor’s Spring Cleanup can earn credits toward their storm water fee. Representatives from registered communities can pick up forms needed to apply for the storm water credit when they come to collect bags for their cleanups.

Tax Sale Clinics

Happening in March and April across the city. Any homeowner with a tax sale-related question or issue (e.g. unpaid bills,  questions about tax credits, legal or housing counseling assistance) is encouraged to attend.

FREE Tax Preparation

A Five-Part Workshop Series Focused on Capacity Building for Community AssociationsMarch 20-May 15, 2017

Does your community association have a strong foundation upon which to build its work? Does it follow its bylaws? Do association leaders know how to keep proper records of meetings? Is the association current on all required filings? Are elections held in a proper manner, as defined by the bylaws?

This series is designed for leaders of all types of community associations – new and old, large and small, experienced and inexperienced.

The following topics will be covered:

Structure, Fiduciary Duties, and Meetings 

· Session 2:  April 3

Meetings and Keeping Things in Order 

· Session 3: April 17

Bylaws 

· Session 4:  May 1

Maintaining and Growing Your Organization 

· Session 5:  May 15

Advocating for Your Community 

All workshops will be held at Community Law Center (3355 Keswick Road, Suite 200, Baltimore, 21211). Doors will open at 6:00pm for dinner (provided) and conversation. Workshops will begin promptly at 6:30pm and will conclude by 8:30pm. 

This series is designed for and limited to community association leaders. Registrants must commit to attending all 5 (five) sessions. 

HOW TO REGISTER: Pre-registration is required; no walk-ins will be permitted. Registration is available only to elected officers or directors of community associations.
