From DPW’s Press Release – Saturday, November 21, 2015

Baltimore City Department of Public Works Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E. is alerting citizens that there was a recent incident, where people posing as “Water Department” employees staged a home invasion.

These incidents generally occur when individuals arrive at a home and claim that they need to get inside to check the water. They may even wear clothing which is like a uniform in appearance.

Department of Public Works employees will not come to your home and ask to come inside unless you have called them for a specific reason, e.g. an emergency flooding issue related to the public water line. DPW employees will always be in official uniform and have a City of Baltimore photo identification, which they will display upon request.

If someone who is not an actual DPW employee asks to enter your home, 911 should be called immediately. Do not become a victim by allowing a stranger into your home.
